One Fold Hot Pink Paper Folding Exercise Fall 2000 (Sharon Roe) This exercise asked students to define an operative rule (made up of cutting and folding paper in a particular sequence) that would influence the outcome of a final form. For example, if the rule were "two cuts and one fold", that sequence would be performed on a sheet of paper until the designer chose to stop the process. It was a highly conceptual exercise without context of any sort. In this particular example, I strayed quite considerably from the unspoken rule that this be a colorless exercise (or that it at least conform to one of the four colors of architecture). My work was also quite symbolic, though the intent of the exercise was for the designer to pursue a formally detached mode of operation. next |
